Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. If necessary, loosen tensioner pulleys for A/C compressor and supercharger idler pulley belts, as well as removing belts from crankshaft pulley.
3. Disconnect sensor electrical connectors from engine wiring harness.
4. Raise vehicle and suitably support. Then remove upper and lower damper shield assemblies.
5. Rotate crankshaft by hand to position metal vane of the shutter (Attached to rear of damper) outside of sensor air gap.
6. Remove crankshaft sensor mounting screws and remove sensor.
INSTALLATION
1. Position crankshaft sensor assembly on bracket.
2. Install two sensor retaining screws but do not tighten. Install crankshaft sensor gauge T89P-6316-AH or equivalent to outside surface of one vane of shutter.
NOTE: Gauge is magnetic and will conform to the shape of the vane.
3. Rotate crankshaft by hand to align shutter vane with gauge into sensor air gap. Be sure to push sensor housing inward to contact gauge and tighten screws to specification, refer to SPECIFICATIONS.
CAUTION: This is a critical torque. Over tightening can cause damage to timing sensor.
4. Rotate crankshaft by hand to position shutter vane with gauge outside of air gap. Remove magnetic gauge.
5. Install upper and lower damper shields and tighten fasteners to specification, then lower vehicle.
