Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect or isolate main fuse block assembly.
3. Disconnect center lead from distributor terminal.
4. Disconnect airflow meter electrical connector from air cleaner assembly.
5. On non-turbocharged models, remove resonance chamber, then bracket.
6. On turbocharged models, remove throttle body to intercooler air hose, then the air cleaner to turbocharger air hose.
7. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable (analog cluster) or harness (digital cluster).
8. On models with 3.0L/V6-182 engine, position pan under radiator and drain coolant, then close valve.
9. Remove upper radiator hose.
10. Disconnect two ground wires from transaxle case.
11. On all models, raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove front tire and wheel assembly.
13. Remove splash shields.
14. Drain fluid from transaxle assembly.
15. Remove slave cylinder from transaxle.
16. Remove cotter pins, tie rod nuts, then disconnect tie rod ends.
17. Remove stabilizer link assemblies.
18. Remove bolts and nuts from lower control arm ball joints.
19. Pull lower control arms down to separate them from the steering knuckles.
20. Remove right-hand joint shaft bracket.
21. Remove halfshaft assemblies from transaxle.
22. Install two transaxle plugs, tool No. T88C-7025-AH or equivalent, between the differential side gears. Failure to install the transaxle plugs may allow the differential side gears to become incorrectly positioned.
23. Remove plate to transaxle attaching bolts.
24. On models with 3.0L/V6-182 engine remove front exhaust pipe.
25. On all models, disconnect extension bar and control rod.
26. On all models except 3.0/V6-182 engine, remove flywheel inspection cover.
27. On all models, remove starter motor, then access brackets.
28. Install engine support bar tool No. D87L-6000-A or equivalent, then attach it to the engine hanger.
29. Remove center transaxle mount, then bracket.
30. Remove left transaxle mount.
31. Remove nut and bolt attaching right transaxle mount to vehicle frame.
32. Remove crossmember and left side lower control arm as an assembly.
33. Position jack under transaxle, then secure transaxle to jack.
34. Remove engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
35. Lower transaxle from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install.
NOTE: During installation of the stabilizer link assemblies, turn the nuts on each assembly until 1 inch of bolt thread can be measured from the upper nut. When this length is obtained, secure the upper nut, then back off the lower nut until a torque of 12-17 ft lbs is reached.
