Disassembly

DISASSEMBLE
1. Mount transaxle on bench mounting fixture tool No. T57L-500-B, or equivalent, then remove drain plug and drain fluid.

2. Remove rear cover retaining bolts and rear cover.

CAUTION: Do not pry cover from case.

Fifth Gear Shift Using Shift Fork And Rod:






3. Remove roll pin with pin punch, then shift transaxle into fifth gear by pressing shift fork and rod down.
4. Shift transaxle into first gear, then uncrimp locknut tabs and remove locknuts and sleeve.
5. Remove input reverse synchronizer gear, then the main reverse synchronizer gear.
6. Remove shift fork, synchronizer ring, then the clutch hub assembly
7. Remove synchronizer ring, (input fifth gear, needle bearing, then the sleeve and ball.
8. Remove main fifth gear, then the interlock plate and bolts.
9. Remove interlock pins, back-up lamp switch, bolts, springs, and balls.
10. Remove transaxle case bolts and reverse idler shaft set bolt, then the transaxle case. If necessary, tap case lightly with soft faced hammer to break gasket seal.

Reverse Idler Shaft And Gear Removal:






11. Remove magnet, reverse idler shaft, and reverse idler gear.
12. Remove base plate assembly, snap ring, crank lever shaft, and crank lever assembly from base plate.

Reverse Shift Lever Removal:






13. Remove reverse shift lever, lever set spring, and roll pin from 3-4 shift fork and rod.
14. Remove roll pin from 3-4 shift rod end, then the shift fork, rod, and rod end.
15. Remove roll pin from 1-2 shift fork and rod, then the 1-2 shift rod and fork.
16. Remove fifth-reverse shift rod and shift rod end, then the interlock pin from the fifth-reverse shift rod.
17. Remove main and input shaft gear assemblies.
18. Remove differential, then the neutral switch.
19. Remove main shaft bearing cups, adjustment shims, diaphragm spring, and funnel.
20. Remove input shaft bearing cups, diaphragm spring, and adjustment shims.
21. Remove differential bearing cups using stator and driven socket bearing replacer tool No. T86P-70043-A, puller tool No. T58L-101-B and slide hammer tool No. T50T-100-A, or equivalents, then the adjustment shims.
22. Remove input shaft seal using step plate tool No. D80L-630-4, or equivalent, and an aluminum drift. Use locknut pin remover tool No. T78P-3504-N, or equivalent, to remove seal without splitting case.
23. Remove differential oil seals using bearing cup puller tool No. T77F-1102-A and slide hammer tool No. T50T-100-A, or equivalents.

Baffle Plate And Change Arm Roll Pin Removal:






24. Remove change arm roll pin using pin punch, then the baffle plate, change arm, and change rod.
25. Remove change arm oil seal using collet tool No. D80L-100-Q, actuator pin tool No. D80L-100-G and slide hammer tool No. D80L-100-D, or equivalents.
26. Remove speedometer driven gear assembly or vehicle speed sensor from the case.
27. Remove oil passage, then the breather cover and breather.
