Brake Lamp: Description and Operation

When the brakes are applied, the Stop Lamp Switch closes, supplying current from the STOP fuse to the Stop and Tail Lamp Checker. In cars without the Stop and Tail Lamp Checker, current is applied directly to the Stop and Tail Lamps. The Stop Lamps consists of both right and left Stop Lamps and a High-Mounted Stop Lamp.
