Analog

The Instrument Cluster (Analog) consists of gauges and warning/indicator lamps.

GAUGES

With the Ignition Switch in the ACCY or RUN position, batter voltage is applied to the gauges through the METER fuse. The Instrument Cluster (Analog) includes Fuel, Temperature, Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Pressure and Manifold Absolute Pressure gauges.

Fuel Gauge

The Fuel gauge is connected to the Fuel Tank Pump/Sending Unit. The unit is a variable resistor which is dependent upon the fuel level. When the fuel level is low, resistance is high; when the fuel level is high, resistance is low.

Temperature Gauge

The Temperature gauge is connected to the Engine Coolant Temperature Sender. The sender is temperature dependent variable resistor. When the water temperature is low, resistance is high; when the water temperature is high, resistance is low.

Speedometer

The Speedometer operates from a pulse signal generated by the Speed Sensor.

Tachometer

The Tachometer receives a signal from the Ignition Coil when the engine is running. The Tachometer displays the signal as revolutions per minute (RPM).

Oil Pressure Gauge

The Oil Pressure gauge is connected to the Oil Pressure Sender. The sender is a pressure sensitive variable resistor. When the oil pressure is low, resistance is high; when oil pressure is high, resistance is low.

WARNING/INDICATOR LAMPS

With the Ignition Switch in the START position, the Warning Indicator Lamps indicate warning for the following systems: Brake, Anti-lock Brake System, Low Oil, Seat Belt, Engine Check and Battery Voltage.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)

The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) warning indicator lights when a malfunction in the ABS is signaled by the ABS Control Module.

Low Oil

The Low Oil Warning Indicator will light when the oil level is low, as monitored by the Oil Level Sensor.

Seat Belt

The Seat Belt warning indicator will light when the Passive Restraint Module and/or the Central Processing Unit (CPU) signal a warning.

Engine Check

The Engine Check warning indicator will light if the ECA senses a fault in the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system. The indicator is turned on to alert the driver when the Ignition Switch is first turned to the ON position.

Battery

The Battery warning indicator will light when the battery voltage falls outside the normal operating range.

Indicator Lamps

The Indicator Lamps light when signaled by the system being used. The Indicator Lamps indicate when the following functions are used in use: Hi-Beam Headlamps, Right and Left Turn Signals, Manual Shift Mode (4EAT only) and Mile Sensor on (GT).

Hi-Beam Indicator

The Hi-Beam indicator lights when the Dimmer Switch is moved to the High Beam position. The indicator receives voltage through the Dimmer Relay when the Hi-Beam Headlamps are ON.

Turn Indicator

The Turn Indicators receive battery voltage when the Turn Signal Switch is turned to indicate the desired vehicle direction change.

Manual Shift Indicator

The Manual Shift Indicator is activated when the automatic transaxle is placed in the Manual Shift Mode.

Low Oil Warning

The Low Oil Warning indicator will light when the oil level is low. It is monitored by the Oil Level Module which receives its signals from the Oil Level Sensor.
