How to Use Pinpoint Tests

Do not perform any of the following pinpoint tests unless instructed to so by the Quick Test. Each pinpoint test assumes that a fault (malfunction) has been detected in the system with direction to enter a specific repair routine. Conducting any pinpoint test without direction from the quick test procedures may produce incorrect results and replacement of satisfactory components. Correct test results for quick test are dependent on the proper operation of related components/systems.
Check wiring circuit in SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS when performing the Pinpoint Tests to locate wire circuits indicated in the test procedure. For Pinpoint Tests, refer to DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS
Observe the following when performing quick tests:
1. Do not replace any component unless test result indicates replacement.
2. When more than one service code is received always start service with first code received.
3. Do not measure voltage or resistance at processor or connect any lights to it, unless specifically instructed to do so.
4. Unless otherwise specified, isolate both ends of a circuit and turn ignition key off whenever checking for continuity or shorts.
5. Disconnect switches and solenoids from harness before measuring resistance or continuity or energizing with a 12-volt power source.
6. When repairs to the ABS system are complete, verify the proper connection of all components, then repeat the functional Quick Test.
