Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
3. Connect tachometer and timing light.

Test Connector:






4. Connect a jumper wire between black one pin STI connector and ground.
5. Check idle speed and adjust if needed.
6. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose at distributor.

Timing Marker:






7. Check that yellow timing mark on crankshaft pulley and mark on timing belt cover line up, indicating timing of 9° ± 1° BTDC.

Distributor Rotation:






8. If marks do not line up, loosen distributor lock bolt and turn distributor housing to adjust.
9. Tighten lock bolt to 14 - 19 ft lb (19 - 25 Nm).
10. Reconnect vacuum hose.
11. Remove jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
12. Remove timing light and tachometer.
