Cylinder Identification Sensor: Description and Operation

Cylinder Identification (CID) Sensor:

PURPOSE
The Cylinder Identification (CID) sensor detects cylinder #1 TDC compression stroke. The ECA uses this signal to calculate injector and ignition timing.

LOCATION
Distributor housing.

OPERATION
The ECA receives an input signal when the reluctor mounted on the distributor shaft rotates past two fixed magnetic pickups. This allows reference to #1 TDC and #4 TDC position.
