Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair
Throttle Body Assembly:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect wiring harness connector from idle air bypass valve assembly.
2. Remove the two retaining screws, idle air bypass valve and gasket.
3. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove TP sensor retaining screws, TP sensor, and gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Position TP sensor and gasket on throttle body.
IMPORTANT: Slide rotary tangs into position over the throttle shaft blade and rotate TP sensor CLOCKWISE to the installed position. Failure to install the TP sensor in this manner may result in excessive idle speeds.
2. Install the two TP sensor retaining screws.
Torque to 25-33 in lbs (2.8-3.8 Nm).
3. Clean idle air by-pass valve gasket mating surfaces.
NOTE: If scraping is necessary, use care not to damage valve or throttle body gasket surfaces, or drop material into the throttle body.
4. Install idle air by-pass valve gasket and valve.
5. Install idle air by-pass valve retaining screws.
Torque to 71-97 in lbs (8-11 Nm).
6. Connect idle air by-pass valve and TP electrical wiring harness connectors.
NOTE:
- The TP sensor is not adjustable
- It may be necessary to adjust the idle speed.
