Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Throttle Body:

1. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor from the wiring harness.
2. If you are reinstalling the same sensor, scribe marks on the throttle body and on the TP sensor to assist with alignment during installation.
3. Remove the TP sensor retaining screws and remove the TP sensor.
4. Install the TP sensor, ensuring that the rotary tangs on the sensor are in proper alignment and the wires are pointing down.
CAUTION: Slide rotary tangs into position over throttle shaft blade, then rotate TP sensor CLOCKWISE to installed position. Failure to install the TP sensor in this manner may result in excessive idle speeds.
6. If reinstalling the old sensor, align the scribe marks from step 2.
6. Install and tighten the retaining screws to 25-30 lbs. in. (2.8-3.8 N-m).
7. Connect the wiring harness to the TP sensor.
NOTE: The throttle position sensor is not adjustable.
