Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair
Air Cleaner Assembly:
REMOVAL
1. Loosen air cleaner outlet tube clamp at throttle body and disconnect tube.
2. Disconnect electrical connections at Mass Airflow Sensor jumper wire and Air Charge Temperature Sensor.
3. Disconnect hot air tube and PCV inlet tube.
4. Remove air cleaner retaining screw and inlet resonator retaining screw. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Inspect inside surfaces of cover for traces of dirt leakage past element as a result of damaged element seals, wrong element, or inadequate torque on cover retaining screws.
6. Remove air cleaner element and clean sealing surfaces on tray and cover. Install a new element. Tighten air cleaner cover screws to 20-30 lb. in. (2.3-3.5 N-m).
INSTALLATION
1. Position air cleaner assembly on bracket. Ensure that mounting grommet is installed with metal side UP, bracket grommet is fully seated, and air cleaner assembly mounting pin is engaged with the bracket grommet.
2. Install screw through rubber grommet (metal side up) into bracket and through metal sleeve in resonator into fender apron. Ensure the engagement tab on the lower edge of the resonator inlet is seated behind the fender apron sheet metal.
3. Connect hot air inlet tube and PCV inlet tube.
4. Connect air cleaner outlet tube. Tighten clamp to 12-22 lb. in. (1.4-2.5 N-m).
5. Connect electrical connections at Mass Airflow Sensor and Air Charge Temperature Sensor.
6. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks around both ends of tube from air cleaner to throttle body.
