DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING

Proportioning Valve Inspection (With ABS)

1. Using suitable adapters, connect two pressure gauges to the linking inlet and outlet ports of the proportioning valve. Tighten the adapters and flare nuts to 13-22 N-m (10-16 lb.ft.).

2. Bleed the air from the brake system as explained in this Section.

3. Press the brake pedal until the inlet fluid pressure (on the master cylinder side of the proportioning valve) is 2943 kPa (427 psi).

a. The outlet fluid pressure (on the rear brake side of the proportioning valve) is within specification if it is 2747-3139 kPa (399-455 psi).

4. Press the brake pedal until the inlet fluid pressure is 5886 kPa (853 psi).

a. The outlet fluid pressure is within specification if it is 3532-4120 kPa (512-598 psi).

b. If the outlet fluid pressure is not within specification, replace the proportioning valve.

5. Bleed the air from the brake system as explained in this Section.
