Disassembly and Assembly
Fig. 13 Exploded View Of Front Brake Caliper:
DISASSEMBLY
1. Open caliper bleed screw and drain caliper, then close bleed screw.
2. Remove caliper.
3. Remove caliper guide bushing and dust boots, Fig. 13.
4. Remove snap ring from caliper piston dust boot.
5. Position a block of wood between piston and caliper.
6. Apply air pressure to through brake hose fitting. Do not use excessive air pressure to remove piston.
7. Remove dust boot and discard.
8. Remove piston seal from caliper and discard.
INSPECTION
1. Check piston for scratches, scoring or damage. Replace, if necessary.
2. Check caliper bore for scratches, scoring or corrosion. Light scratches or slight corrosion can be polished out using crocus cloth.
3. Check that bleeder screw and bleeder screw bore hole in caliper are fully open.
4. Check caliper bushings for corrosion and dust boot retaining ring for damage or tension loss. Replace parts as necessary.
ASSEMBLY
1. Lubricate mew piston seal with brake fluid and install seal in caliper groove. Ensure seal does not become twisted in caliper bore.
2. Lubricate caliper bore and piston with brake fluid.
3. Install dust boot on piston and slide dust boot into groove.
4. Install piston in caliper bore and push down into bottom of bore.
5. Slide dust boot over boss on caliper bore and install snap ring.
6. Install caliper guide bushing, dust boot and guide pin.
7. Install caliper bolt and torque to specification.
8. Perform front brake bleeding procedures, then pump brake pedal several times to seat brake pads.
9. Check fluid level and add if necessary.
10. With vehicle in Neutral, spin each rotor to ensure brakes are not dragging.
11. Install wheel and tire assemblies.
