Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering column as follows:
a. Remove steering wheel, two column cover retaining screws and column cover.
b. Remove nine attaching screws from instrument cover.
c. Carefully pull instrument cover outward to disconnect electrical connectors and illumination bulb.
d. Remove instrument cover and loosen two cover hinge screws.
e. Remove six screws from instrument cluster cover, then remove cover.
f. Remove lower panel, then the lap and defrost ducts.
g. Disconnect four electrical connectors at turn signal switch.
h. Remove upper U-joint cinch bolt from lower end of steering shaft.
i. Remove mounting nuts from hinge bracket and four support nuts.
j. Remove two nuts and four bolts from upper steering column brackets.
k. Remove steering shaft assembly.
l. Lift boot from intermediate shaft U-joint at steering rack, then remove lower U-joint cinch bolt.
m. Remove four nuts from intermediate shaft dust cover assembly.
and. Remove intermediate shaft and dust cover assembly.
3. Remove instrument cluster.
4. Remove floor console as follows:
a. Remove selector lever or shift knob and trim piece.
b. On automatic models, remove four selector bezel mounting screws and lift selector bezel to disconnect illumination bulb.
c. Disconnect shift control wiring harness and remove selector bezel.
d. On all models, Remove ash tray and four retaining screws located on front of console.
e. Position front seats to gain access and remove console rear access hole covers.
f. Remove retaining screw on each side of console. Position front seats to most rear position and lift console from rear to disconnect electrical connectors.
g. Apply parking brake and carefully remove console.
5. Remove hood release handle.
6. Remove left and right console kick panels.
7. Remove left and right I/P dash panel covers.
8. Remove control panel assembly as described under ``Control Panel Assembly, Replace.''
9. Remove radio as follows:
a. Remove two screws attaching radio to I/P.
b. Using tool T87P-19061-A, or equivalent, depress both sides of radio and pull out from mounting position.
c. Disconnect electrical connectors and antenna cable from radio.
10. Remove trip computer, if equipped, as follows:
a. Remove trip computer display cover bezel from I/P.
b. Remove two attaching screws from display housing and pull straight out of dash.
c. Disconnect trip computer display electrical connector and remove display.
d. Remove two attaching screws at bottom of center register assembly.
e. Gently remove center register assembly from I/P by pulling straight away from panel.
f. Disconnect keyboard electrical connector and remove three attaching screws from housing. Remove housing.
11. Remove dash panel access cover to gain access to center I/P dash mounting nut. Remove nut.
12. Remove ten remaining mounting nuts.
13. Remove A-B trim pillar.
14. Lift I/P up and tilt toward rear of vehicle.
15. Disconnect all remaining electrical connectors and remove from vehicle.
16. Reverse procedure to install.
