Starter Motor: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. On models with manual transaxles, remove exhaust pipe bracket.
3. On all models, remove transaxle to engine bracket, then the intake manifold to engine bracket.
4. Disconnect wiring from starter motor.
5. Remove three starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor from the vehicle.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque starter motor attaching bolts to 23-34 ft. lbs.
b. Torque intake manifold to engine bracket bolts to 14-22 ft. lbs.
c. On automatic transaxle models, when installing the transaxle to engine bracket, torque bellhousing bolt to 66-86 ft. lbs., then the remaining three bracket bolts to 27-38 ft. lbs.
d. On manual transaxle models, when installing the transaxle to engine bracket, torque bracket bolts to 32-45 ft. lbs.
