Cylinder Identification Sensor: Description and Operation
Cylinder Identification (CID) Sensor:
The Cylinder Identification (CID) sensor is located in the distributor and provides accurate position of cylinder #1 TDC compression stroke. The Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) receives an input signal as the reluctor mounted on the distributor shaft rotates past two fixed magnetic pickups. This allows reference to #1 and #4 cylinders at top dead center position. The ECA uses this signal to modify injector timing and ignition timing.
