Neutral Gear Switch (NGS)
Neutral Gear Switch (NGS):
The Engine Control Assembly (ECA) sends out a 5 volt reference to the Neutral Gear Switch (NGS). When the switch is OPEN (transmission in GEAR), the ECA senses this voltage. When the switch is CLOSED (vehicle in NEUTRAL), the ECA senses no voltage. The ECA uses this input to determine engine load and to adjust idle speed, and ignition timing accordingly.
