CONVERTIBLE TOP - WORN OR CUT BY WHEELHOUSE WHEN STOWED - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 11/1/91


FORD: 1991-92 MUSTANG


ISSUE: A worn or cut convertible top may be caused by sharp sheet metal on the quarter panel wheelhouse. This occurs when the vehicle is driven with the top down in the stowed position.

ACTION: Install a protective guard on both the right hand and left hand quarter panel wheelhouse. Refer to the following procedure for service details.





1. Remove the trim screw protectors and trim screw as shown in Figure 1.

NOTE: ROTATE THE PROTECTORS COUNTERCLOCKWISE.


2. Detach the sling from the threaded screws.


NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS FROM THE VEHICLE.





3. Remove the trim clips, as shown in Figure 2, to detach the sling.





4. Pull back the sling and insulator to expose the wheelhouse metal tabs, Figure 3.





5. Cut the protective guard (E8UZ-9099-B) into three (3) six inch (6") pieces and install one (1) protective guard onto each wheelhouse sheet metal as shown in Figure 4.

6. Reverse Steps 1 through 4 to replace the sling.

7. Repeat this procedure on the other side.
