Fast Idle Speed

1. Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL. Block the wheels and set the parking brake. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic brake release, disconnect the vacuum hose and plug it.
2. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
3. Position the A/C-Heat selector to the OFF position.
4. Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose from the EGR valve.
5. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the tachometer manufacturers' instructions.
6. Place the fast idle linkage on the second step of the fast idle cam. Check the fast idle speed. If adjustment is required, rotate the fast idle screw clockwise to increase the speed and counterclockwise to reduce the speed.

7. Accelerate the engine momentarily and allow to return to idle. Place the fast idle linkage on the second step of the fast idle cam. Recheck the fast idle speed and readjust if necessary.
8. Reconnect the EGR vacuum line and adjust the VOTM kicker.
