Curb Idle Speed (Carbureted)
1. Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL. Block the wheels and set the parking brake. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic brake release, disconnect the vacuum hose and plug it.2. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
3. Position the A/C-Heat selector to the OFF position.
4. Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose from the throttle kicker.
5. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the tachometer manufacturers' instructions.
6. Check the curb idle speed. If adjustment is required, rotate the curb idle screw clockwise to increase the speed and counterclockwise to reduce the speed.
Curb Idle And Kicker Adjustment:
7. Accelerate the engine momentarily and allow to return to idle. Place the transmission in its specified position and recheck curb idle speed and readjust if needed.
8. Apply a small amount of pressure on top of the nylon nut located on the accelerator pump, to take up any linkage slack.
9. Rotate the nylon nut on the accelerator pump clockwise until there is .005 to .015 in. of clearance between the accelerator pump and the accelerator pump lever.
10. Rotate the accelerator pump rod one turn counterclockwise, this sets the accelerator lever lash preload.
11. Reconnect the throttle kicker vacuum line, and go to FAST IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT.
