Air Induction (Intake) System
Air Induction System:
The air induction system provides clean air to the throttle body. Outside air enters from an opening in the fender through the air cleaner inlet tube and then into the air cleaner assembly, where it is filtered through the air filter. From the air cleaner assembly it travels through the air cleaner outlet tube and into the throttle body. The PCV system is also supplied clean air from a filter pack located inside the air cleaner tray. Air induction noise is effectively reduced by means of a sealed and tuned resonator chamber located in the air cleaner cover assembly and a secondary tuned venturi section in the inlet tube.
A vacuum operated pre-heat system is included to provide heated intake air during cold engine operation. A temperature sensor controls a door in the air cleaner assembly to allow heated air from around the exhaust manifold to enter the intake system until a predetermined temperature is reached, at which time the door closes.
