ISSUE: The loss of temperature control may be caused by the temperature control cable coming off the blend air door pivot shaft.
ACTION: Install a spring washer retainer to secure the temperature control cable to the blend air door pivot shaft. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature.
2. Depress the A/C button and put the blower speed on high.
3. Set the function control lever to the panel position.
4. Move the temperature selector lever to the maximum cool, then to the maximum heat position.
5. Check to see if there is a distinct difference in air temperature from cool to hot at the center panel registers.
6. If the air temperature does not respond to the temperature lever selection, examine the blend door cable attachment. Refer to the 1989/90 Probe Shop Manual, pages 36-41-10 and 36-41-11 for service details.
7. If the temperature control cable is disconnected from the blend door, install a spring washer retainer to secure the cable to the door pivot shaft.
8. Confirm the full temperature range as outlined in Steps 3 through 5 above.
