SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER - ANALOG - REVISED REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

FORD: 1989-90 PROBE

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to correct the Order Processing telephone number.

ISSUE: Analog speedometer/odometers previously were reset if a replacement was required. This procedure has been revised and the odometer must not be reset. This reduces possible internal damage.

ACTION: Install a new speedometer assembly. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Obtain the correct speedometer assembly. Refer to the parts block for correct parts usage.

NOTE: ALL ANALOG SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ASSEMBLIES CONTAIN A SPEED SENSOR AND THE SERVICE INTERVAL COUNTER ON GT APPLICATIONS.

2. Before installation, check to see if a special odometer replacement label is in the box. If it is missing, call Order Processing: (313) 523-5000 for a replacement label. This label must be filled in to comply with anti-tampering laws.

3. Do not disassemble the new speedometer assembly.

4. Install the new speedometer assembly. Refer to the 1990 Probe Shop Manual, Section 33-10 for service details.

5. After installation, use a waterproof pen to write the actual mileage and date on the "replacement" label. Affix the label to the driver side door post near the VIN label.

6. Confirm that the new speedometer is operating properly.
