^ AIR CONDITIONING - COMPRESSOR AND BLOWER MOTOR - INTERMITTENT OPERATION

^ AIR CONDITIONING - INSUFFICIENT A/C COOLING

FORD:
1989-92 PROBE

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to update model year coverage and to specify correct Service Manual pages.

ISSUE:
Insufficient A/C cooling may be caused by intermittent operation of the A/C compressor or blower motor. This condition can be caused by a shorted resistor on manual A/C systems or a burned out transistor on electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) A/C systems.

ACTION:
Use one of the following diagnostic procedures to determine the correct service action.

MANUAL A/C SYSTEM

1. Check the manual A/C blower motor system.

a. Refer to the Service Manual Reference Chart in this article for the proper Probe Shop Manual pages and pin point tests.

b. If directed to pin point test BMM 7 and the test fails, replace the resistor (E92Z-19A706-A). Refer to the appropriate Probe Shop Manual section for service details.

NOTE:
INSPECT FOR MOISTURE CONTAMINATION. EXCESSIVE MOISTURE FROM THE THE EVAPORATOR CAN CAUSE THE HOT RESISTOR COILS TO SHORT OUT. MOISTURE IN THE EVAPORATOR CASE AND WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CARPET CAN BE CAUSED BY A RESTRICTED EVAPORATOR DRAIN HOSE. REFER TO TSB 89-16-7 FOR SERVICE PROCEDURE.

2. Check the A/C compressor clutch operation on manual systems. Refer to the appropriate Probe Shop Manual section for diagnostic and service procedures.

3. After the diagnosis and repairs are complete, check the operation of the A/C system during a road test.

EATC A/C SYSTEM

1. Check the EATC A/C blower motor system.

a. Refer to the Service Manual Reference Chart in this article for the proper Probe Shop Manual pages and pin point tests.

b. If the transistor is burned out or fails any of the voltage tests, replace the transistor, (E92Z-19E719-A).

2. After the diagnosis and repairs are completed, check the operation of the A/C system during a road test.
