This suspension is of the MacPherson strut type, Fig. 1. The strut towers are located in the wheelwells and position the upper ends of the struts. If the vehicle is equipped with the optional Programmed Ride Control system, the ride control actuator bolts to the top of the strut mounting block that houses a rubber mounted strut bearing. The upper end of the coil spring rides in a rubber sprint seat. A forged steering knuckle is bolted to the shock absorber.
If the vehicle is not equipped with the Programmed Ride Control System, the struts used are the conventional non-adjustable type. These struts are not interchangeable.
The lower ball joints are pressed into the lower control arm that is attached to the steering knuckle. The control arms are supported by rubber bushings at each end. A hollow stabilizer bar is connected to the control arms.
