Ignition System: Service and Repair
DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR
1. Wash distributor Cap with soapy water and dry with compressed air. Inspect cap for broken carbon button, cracks, carbon tracking, dirt, or corrosion. Replace cap if damaged.
2. Use a clean cloth to wipe rotor. Inspect and replace if carbon tracking, burns or cracks are noticed. Inspect cap gasket for damage and replace if necessary.
DISTRIBUTOR - NON-TURBO
1. Use clean soft cloth to wipe all parts.
2. Inspect O-rings for damage or wear. Replace if necessary.
3. Inspect base of distributor for damage or wear.
4. Check for looseness or binding at lower shaft. Lubricate all pivoting and sliding surfaces.
5. Apply thin, even layer of silicone to module mounting face.
IGNITION COIL
Wipe the coil tower with a clean cloth dampened with soap and water. Remove any soap film and dry with compressed air. Inspect for cracks, carbon tracking and dirt.
SPARK PLUG WIRES
Without removing the wires from the spark plugs, distributor cap and coil, wipe the wires with a clean, damp cloth. Inspect them for visible damage such as cuts, pinches, cracks or torn boots. Replace only the wires that are damaged.
