The crankshaft position sensor, located within the distributor, Figs. 6 and 7, provides crankshaft position input to the electronic control assembly which the ECA converts to engine speed (RPM) information. On 2.2L/4-133 turbocharged models, a rotor is mounted on the distributor shaft which has 24 equally spaced teeth. As each rotor tooth passes a fixed magnetic pickup, a signal in generated and sent to the ECA reflecting crankshaft rotation speed. On 1.8L/4-109 and 1.3L/4-80.8 engines, a disc with four equally spaced slots cut into it rotates with the distributor shaft. As the disc rotates, each slot passes through a fixed photo sensor which senses the slots and sends a signal to the ECA reflecting crankshaft rotation speed.
