Ignition Coil: Service and Repair
Removal, Non-Turbo Engine
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. First twist, then pull high tension lead from coil terminal.
3. Remove distributor wiring harness from coil while noting position for reinstallation later.
4. Remove the coil and bracket assembly. (Note two nuts.) Then loosen clamp screw at coil bracket and remove coil.
Installation
1. Insert coil into bracket and tighten clamp screw. Install coil and bracket assembly, tightening two nuts.
2. First install distributor wiring harness. Then install high tension lead into coil center terminal. Reconnect negative battery cable.
Removal, Turbo Engine
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. First twist, then pull high tension lead from coil terminal.
Ignitor Wiring Harness.:
3. Disconnect ignitor wiring harness, remove the two nuts.
Ignition Coil And Ignitor Assembly:
4. Disconnect the coil and noise suppressor wiring harness. (Lift coil and ignitor assembly to gain access.) Slide protective cover back to gain access to the wiring harness connector. Disconnect coil wiring harness and remove the noise suppressor.
Ignitor Module And Ignition Coil Assembly:
5. Remove two screws, the ignitor module, bracket, and coil.
Installation
1. Install ignitor module bracket and coil onto coil mounting bracket, and tighten screws.
2. Install ignition module onto the mounting bracket, then install noise suppressor.
3. Slide protective covering over connector after connecting coil wiring harness to coil.
4. Make sure connector locks in place when connecting coil wiring harness. Install coil assembly.
5. Connect ignitor wiring harness. Install high tension lead into coil center terminal and connect negative battery cable.
