Engine Control Module: Description and Operation
The microprocessor called the electronic control assembly (ECA), receives data from a number of sensors and other electronic components (switches and relays). The ECA contains a specific calibration for optimum emissions, fuel economy and driveability. Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the ECA generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids and other actuators. On 2.2L/4-133 non-turbocharged models ATX, the ECA also contains the 4EAT microprocessor which is the control center for the four speed electronic automatic transaxle 4EAT. On 1.3L/4-80.8 models, the ECA module is located under left side of instrument panel. On all other models is mounted on the floor panel behind the center console.
