Convertible Models Only






REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove fan shroud. If equipped with an electric fan, disconnect power lead to fan motor. Remove fan and shroud assembly.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hose at radiator.
5. Raise vehicle on a hoist.
6. Drain the crankcase. Disconnect low oil level sensor, if equipped.
7. Remove the RH and LH engine support nuts.
8. Using a jack, raise the engine as high as it will go. Place wood blocks between the mounts and No. 2 crossmember pedestal brackets. Remove the jack. Remove shake brace.
9. Remove the sway bar retaining bolts and lower the sway bar.
10. Disconnect the cable at the starter. Remove the starter bolts and remove the starter.
11. Remove steering gear retaining bolts and lower the gear.
12. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Allow the oil pan to drop to the crossmember and remove.

NOTE: No. 4 piston must be up so the rear of the oil pan clears the crankshaft throw.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean oil pan and gasket surface at the cylinder block.
2. Remove and clean the oil pump pickup tube and screen assembly, then install.
3. Position the oil pan gasket to the oil pan with Gasket and Seal Contact Adhesive D7AZ-19B508-A or equivalent.
4. Replace oil filter.

5. Apply silicone rubber sealer D6AZ-19562-B (ESE-M4G195-A) to joint of block as indicated.
6. Position two guide pins and install oil pan and pan reinforcements to the cylinder block. Secure pan with the four M8 bolts and the eighteen M6 bolts.
7. Remove guide pins and install and tighten the twenty M6 oil pan retaining bolts clockwise around the pan.
8. Tighten bolts to 8-12 Nm (6-9 ft lb).
9. Position steering gear. Install bolts, nuts and tighten.
10. Install starter, and connect the cable.
11. Raise engine enough to remove wood blocks, lower engine and remove jack. Install shake brace.
12. Install the RH and LH engine support nuts. Tighten nuts to 108-144 Nm (80-106 ft lb).
13. Install the sway bar.
14. Connect low oil level sensor, if equipped.
15. Lower the vehicle. Connect battery ground cable.

NOTE: On vehicles equipped with Electronic Engine Control (EEC), when the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the EEC processor relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

16. Install fan shroud. Connect radiator hoses to radiator.
17. Fill the crankshaft with oil. Fill cooling system.
18. Start engine and check for leaks.
