Engine - Higher/Lower Than Normal Idle Speed

88ford11

EEC IV QUICK TEST - 2.5L - SERVICE CODE "13" STORED IN KEEP ALIVE MEMORY (KAM)

IDLE - HIGHER THAN NORMAL OR LOWER THAN NORMAL - 2.5L - SERVICE CODE "13" STORED IN KEEP ALIVE MEMORY (KAM)

Article No. 88-11-9

FORD: 1988 TAURUS

ISSUE: A higher than normal engine idle or lower than normal engine idle may cause the EEC IV processor to store a service code "13" in KAM. The 1988 Engine/Emission Diagnosis Manual does not clearly state to remove service code "13" from KAM after servicing these concerns.

ACTION: If service is required, use the diagnostic procedures in the Engine/Emission Diagnosis Manual, Volume H. After servicing these concerns, clear the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) and allow the vehicle to relearn idle speed. Retest the EEC IV system to make sure the concern has been corrected.
