FORD: 1987-88 MUSTANG, THUNDERBIRD

LIGHT TRUCK: 1985-88 RANGER, BRONCO II 1986-88 AEROSTAR

ISSUE: The front oil pump to converter housing bolts for the 1988 A4LD transmission cannot be used on prior model year A4LD transmissions. Two (2) types of front oil pump to converter housing bolts are currently available for service. The M-6 bolts are used to service 1987 and prior model year A4LD transmissions and C3 transmissions. M-8 bolts are used to service 1988 model year A4LD transmissions only. The M-8 bolt size is M-8 x 1 with fine threads and has a torque range of 17-20 ft.lbs. (23-27 N-m).

ACTION: If service is required, refer to the Dealer Master Parts Catalog for the front oil pump to converter housing bolts service part numbers.

NOTE: The 1987 and prior model year M-6 bolts, front oil pump support, oil pump adapter plate and converter housing assemblies are not to be used to service 1988 A4LD transmissions.
