SAFETY BELT - FRONT-SLOW TO RETRACT

FORD: 1988 MUSTANG

ISSUE: Front safety belts on 1988 Mustang GT units and 1988 Mustang Convertible units that are slow to retract may be caused by one or more of the following conditions:

^ Safety belt "D" ring will not swivel freely.

^ Shoulder belt rubs on the power quarter window motor shield.

^ Shoulder belt rubs on the power quarter window motor wire harness.

^ Shoulder belt rubs on the rear seat radio speaker wire harness.

^ Shoulder belt rubs on the vinyl "tail" at the front edge of the quarter trim panel.

^ Shoulder belt guide loop is too narrow and is angled in the wrong direction (GT only).

ACTION: Install a new design bolt that allows the safety belt "D" ring to swivel freely. Also install a new safety belt guide loop on Mustang GT units. Inspect the other areas of concern to determine the correct service action. Refer to the following procedure for service details. Use the extension application chart to determine the correct service part number.
