FORD: 1987-89 MUSTANG


ISSUE: Mustang GT units equipped with "Goodyear Eagle GT" 235/60R15 tires may show evidence of tire rub marks on the front lower fender extensions.

FIGURE 1:

ACTION: Modify both lower front fender extensions to provide additional clearance for the front tires, Figure 1. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

NOTE: THE LOWER FRONT FENDER EXTENSIONS DO NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE.

FIGURE 2:

1. Remove the three (3) screws holding the fender extension to the fender flange, Figure 2.

2. Position the fender extension aside to gain access to the fender flange.

3. Make sure the fender flange is flat. Rework the fender flange if required.

NOTE: IF THE FENDER FLANGE IS REWORKED, MAKE SURE ANY EXPOSED SHEET METAL IS PAINTED TO PREVENT CORROSION.

4. Remove excess material from the lower inside corner of the fender extension as shown in Figure 2.

5. Cut out the full size template and position it on the fender extension as shown in Figure 3.

6. Scribe the new edge line on the fender extension.

7. Using a sharp cutting tool, trim off the excess material from the fender extension, Figure 3.

8. Using a piece of fine sandpaper, dress the new edge line on the fender extension.

9. Touch-up the new edge line on the fender extension with matching paint.

10. Re-position the fender extension to the fender flange.

FIGURE 2:

11. Reinstall the three (3) screws that hold the fender extension to the fender flange, Figure 2.

12. Repeat Steps 1 through 11 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
