ISSUE: Lugging "driveline shudder" in higher gears at low engine RPM after a sudden tip-in from closed throttle may be caused by the EEC IV TFI module. Under certain drive conditions, the current module may have insufficient (17~) dwell.
ACTION: To correct this, install a new EEC IV TFI module having a 30~ dwell. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Road test vehicle to check for condition.
2. If condition exists, proceed to Step 3.
3. Remove existing EEC IV TFI module (Engineering part number E6SF-12A297-AA) and replace with (E43Z-12A297-A). The replacement module has 30~ dwell, which corrects the condition.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
