FORD: 1987-90 MUSTANG
ISSUE: Hesitations and stumbles may be caused by a vacuum leak from the EGR vacuum reservoir. The vacuum reservoir in the vacuum harness may be too close to the heat of the EGR system allowing heat damage to the reservior. This may or may not produce self test codes 32 or 34 directing pinpoint testing of the EGR system.
ACTION: Install a new EGR vacuum reservoir. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
Figure 1:
1. Inspect the EGR vacuum reservoir for signs of melting which can cause vacuum leakage, Figure 1.
NOTE: THE EGR VALVE AND/OR EVP REPLACEMENT MAY NOT BE REQUIRED IF JUST THE RESERVOIR CAN BE SERVICED.
2. Install a new EGR vacuum reservoir, Figure 1.
3. Secure the vacuum harness away from the EGR system.
a. Attach the reservoir to the "red" manifold vacuum line with a bundling strap.
b. Remove any excessive length of the bundling strap.
