IDLE - RICHER THAN NORMAL - 5.8L ENGINE

FORD: 1987 CROWN VICTORIA

ISSUE: A richer than normal air/fuel mixture at engine idle on 1987 Police and Canadian Crown Victoria vehicles may be caused by the MCU module.

ACTION: To correct this, install a new level MCU module that will allow for a leaner engine idle. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Perform a "VIP" self-test, service as required.

2. Remove the MCU module.

3. Install the new level MCU module, (E8AZ-12A651-A).




Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
