Cruise Control Switch: Testing and Inspection

Speed Control System With Resume:

First check main feed and stop lamp fuses. If these are okay, proceed with test. Disconnect 6-pin connector at amplifier assembly and refer to the wiring schematic when performing these checks:

1. Connect a voltmeter across circuit 151 LB/BK H and ground. With ignition "ON," depress speed control "ON" button and check for battery voltage.
2. Connect an ohmmeter between circuit 151 LB/BK H and ground.
3. Rotate steering wheel through its full range of motion while making the following checks:
a. Depress "OFF" button and check for a reading between 0 and 1 ohm.
b. Depress "SET ACCEL" button and check for a reading between 714 and 646 ohms.
c. Depress "COAST" button and check for a reading between 126 and 114 ohms.
d. Depress "RESUME" button and check for a reading between 2310 and 2090 ohms.
4. If resistance values are within specification, but reading fluctuates, remove steering wheel and clean brushes and slip ring surfaces. Uniformly apply slip ring grease E1AZ-19590-A (ESA-M1C189-A) or equivalent, approximately 0.02 in (0.5 mm) thick to slip rings.
5. If resistance values are above allowable limits, check switch assemblies and ground circuit. Repair as needed.
6. After testing and repair, reconnect 6-pin amplifier connector.
