Owner Letter Information - Attachment II
Dear Mustang Convertible Owner:The purpose of this letter is to tell you about a new Ford service program involving some 1983-model Mustang convertibles. Our records indicate that you own a vehicle eligible for the program, which has the serial number shown on the envelope that contained this letter. (If you own more than one eligible car, the serial numbers are shown on tbe listing attached to this letter.)
REASONS FOR THE PROGRAM:
With the convertible top in a full-down position, the ends of the dust cover retainer on the rear seat back, and/or the corners of the rear seat back may contact and damage the convertible top side pads. Should this happen, damage to the pad material between the roof bows could occur. Please do not cycle your vehicle's convertible top any more than necessary until it has been inspected and/or repaired.
DESCRIPTION OF FORD'S PROGRAM:
Any Ford dealership will inspect the roof side pads of your vehicle to determine if they are damaged. If the side pads have already been damaged as a result of contact with the retainer ends or corners of the rear seat back, the damaged portion of the pads will be repaired. In addition, the retainer ends and/or the corners of the rear seat back will be modified to prevent the interference. These services will be provided at no charge to you.

ILLUSTRATION 2:
If you prefer, you may inspect the convertible top roof side pads of your vehicle to determine if they are damaged. This inspection should be made from inside your vehicle with the convertible top in an "up" position. (Please see Illustration 1.) You should also see whether the pads are contacting the ends of the rear seat back (Please see Illustration 2.) To perform this inspection, you must first lower the convertible top. It is not necessary to unzip the rear window to lower the top.
Whether you return your vehicle to a Ford dealership or choose to inspect your vehicle, we urge you to perform the inspection or have it performed as soon as possible.
TO HAVE THIS SERVICE PERFORMED:
If your vehicle has this condition, or if you wish to have your vehicle inspected, please contact any Ford dealership at your earliest convenience to arrange an appointment for service. All Ford dealerships have been advised of this program, and can assist you as necessary. This program will remain in effect during your vehicle's 12-month/12,000-mile warranty period or until September 30, 1984, whichever provides the greater coverage.
Enclosed is a pamphlet that provides helpful hints to assist you in the installation of the convertible top dust cover. Please read this pamphlet and keep it with your Owner Guide in the glove compartment of your vehicle for future reference.
Ford is voluntarily doing this program as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain customer confidence in our products. We appreciate your patronage and wish you many miles of happy motoring with your Mustang convertible.
