EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

OPERATION
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid is an duty type solenoid valve. It controls EGR by regulating ported negative pressure delivered to the throttle body port A.

Power supply from the battery is sent through the Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) relay to the EGR solenoid. When the engine control module turns off the transistor inside the module, current no longer flows through the solenoid coil windings and EGR valve ported vacuum passes back to the throttle body.
