EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and check it for sticking or carbon deposits. If found, clean with a suitable solvent so that the valve seats correctly.
2. Connect a hand vacuum pump to the EGR valve.
3. Apply 500mm Hg (20 in. Hg) vacuum, and check to be sure that vacuum is maintained.
4. Apply a vacuum and check the function of the valve by blowing air through one side of the EGR passage.
