Throttle Body Replacement

Throttle Body, Bypass Port Inlet:

Throttle Body (Throttle Valve Area) Inspection
Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body and check the throttle valve surface (for carbon deposits), by rotating the valve.

Throttle Body (Throttle Valve Area) Cleaning
1. Run the engine until warm.
2. Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body.
3. Spray cleaning solvent into the valve through the throttle body intake port and leave it for about 5 minutes.
4. Start the engine, race it several times and let it idle for about 1 minute.
Note: If the idle speed becomes unstable (or if the engine stalls), slightly open the throttle valve to keep the engine running.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the throttle valve surface is free of carbon deposits.
6. Attach the air intake hose.
7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for more than 10 seconds and reconnect it (to clear any codes that are set).
8. Adjust the idle speed control and throttle position sensor. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.

Removal

2. Connection for breather hose
3. Connection for air intake hose
4. Connection for vacuum hose

Installation

Note: Install the gasket so that the projection is as shown in the figure. Poor idling, etc. may result if the gasket is installed incorrectly.

1. Install a new gasket.
2. Install the throttle body and torque the bolts, in a cross-pattern.

Torque value:
7.0 - 9.0 ft lb (10 - 13 N-m)

3. Reconnect the throttle cable (and cruise control cable, if equipped).
4. Reconnect the intake air duct.
5. For the initial adjustment of the throttle position sensor and the idle speed screw, refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
