Throttle Body Service

Throttle Body, Bypass Port Inlet:

THROTTLE BODY (THROTTLE VALVE AREA) INSPECTION
Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body and check the throttle valve surface for carbon deposits by rotating the valve.

THROTTLE BODY (THROTTLE VALVE AREA) CLEANING
1. Run the engine until warm.
2. Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body.
3. Spray cleaning solvent into the valve through the throttle body intake port and leave it for about 5 minutes.
4. Start the engine, race it several times and let it idle for about 1 minute.

NOTE: If the idle speed becomes unstable (or if the engine stalls), slightly open the throttle valve to keep the engine running.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the throttle valve surface is free of carbon deposits.
6. Attach the air intake hose.
7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for more than 10 seconds and connect it (to clear any codes that are set).
8. Adjust the idle speed control and throttle position sensor. Refer to Adjustments.

Fuel Rail, Injectors And Fuel Pressure Regulator Components:

REMOVAL
1. Remove the air intake hose.
2. Remove the accelerator cable.
3. Remove the cruise control cable if equipped.
4. Remove the four bolts securing the throttle body to the intake air plenum and remove the throttle body.

Throttle Body:

DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY

Disassembly steps
1. Throttle position sensor (with closed throttle position switch)
2. Idle air control motor.
3. Gasket
4. Throttle body
5. Accelerator cable bracket

ASSEMBLY CAUTIONS:
- When loosening a Phillips screw which has been firmly tightened, use a Phillips screwdriver that is an exact fit for the screw.
- Do not remove the throttle valve.
- Be careful when removing the throttle position sensor and idle air control motor mounting screws, as adhesive has been applied to these screws.

SERVICE POINT OF REASSEMBLY

INSTALLATION OF THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
1. Set the throttle position sensor to the throttle body as shown in the diagram.
2. Turn throttle position sensor 9O°in the counterclockwise direction to set it, and tighten screws.
3. Check for continuity across terminals ffi2 (closed throttle position switch) and G1 (ground) with the throttle valve both fully closed and fully open.

INSTALLATION
1. Install a new gasket.
2. Install the throttle body and torque the bolts in a cross-pattern

Torque value: 14 ft lb (19 N-m)

3. Connect the throttle cable (and cruise control cable if equipped).
4. Connect the intake air duct.
5. For the initial adjustment of the throttle position sensor and the idle speed screw, Refer to Computers and Control Systems/Throttle Position Sensor/Adjustments. Adjustments
