Replace the oil pan, oil pump and silent shafts in numbered sequence shown, noting the following:
1. On all-wheel-drive models, oil pan removal requires that the transfer assembly first be removed as outlined under Transmissions, Clutches, Differential, Drive Axles, and Drive Shafts.
2. On all models, use a brass bar and tool MD998727 or its equivalent to knock the oil pan loose from the block after removing the retaining bolts and nuts. Perform this operation with care so that the pan flange is not damaged.
3. Use special tool MD998162 to remove the front case plug cap.

4. Remove the pump driven gear bolt by first removing the plug on the side of the cylinder block, and then inserting a Phillips screwdriver into the plug hold to block the silent shaft.
5. Use tool MD998371 to remove the silent shaft front bearing from the cylinder block, MD998372 to remove the right silent shaft rear bearing and both MD998372 and MD998374 to remove the left shaft rear bearing.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use bearing installation tool Nos. MD998374 and MD998373, when installing silent shaft bearings.

b. Coat oil pump drive and driven gears with oil then install, aligning timing marks.
c. Install oil seals using seal installation tool Nos. C-3095-A or equivalent.
d. Install front oil seal installer tool No. MD998285 on crankshaft and apply oil to tool.

e. Install front case assembly through new front case gasket and temporarily tighten flange bolts. Do not tighten filter bracket bolts.
f. Mount oil filter bracket and gasket on front case and install bolts.
g. Tighten front case and oil filter bracket bolts to specifications.
h. Secure oil pump driven gear onto the left silent shaft.
i. Install new O-ring and cap plug using socket tool No. MD998162 or equivalent.

j. Apply a .16 inch bead of sealant to the oil pan flange as shown.

k. Note difference in length of oil pan bolt when installing oil pan.
