Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Release fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/Fuel System Pressure Relief.
2. Drain engine coolant into a suitable container.

3. Remove intake manifold in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 10 removing the fuel rail assembly keeping injectors and regulator attached.

INSPECTION


Begin by checking manifold for damage. On 2.4L engines, check the air intake plenum as well. When parts appear to be sound, proceed to check them on these points as well:
1. Check that vacuum outlet ports, water and jet air ports are free of obstructions.
2. Using a straightedge and a thickness gauge, check for distortion at the cylinder head installation surface.

INSTALLATION


Reverse removal procedures to install. On 2.4L/4-143.5 engines, apply 3M No. 4171 adhesive or its equivalent to thermo valve thread, then install valve on intake manifold.
