B. Replace Left Side Motorized Shoulder Belt Guide Rail
(1993 MY Colt/Summit 2-Door Only):1. Cover the driver seat with a clean drop cloth.
2. Disconnect the shoulder belt from the emergency release buckle.
3. Move the driver's seat to the full forward position.
4. Remove the rear seat cushion (Figure 12).
5. ^ For vehicles with a one piece rear seat back: Remove the two (2) outer nuts and one (1) center bolt that secure the rear seat back and then remove the rear seat back (Figure 13).
^ For vehicles with a split fold down rear seat back: Remove the lower nut that secures the left side rear seat back and then remove the left side rear seat back (Figure 13).
6. Remove the driver door sill trim panel (Figure 14).
7. Remove the rear quarter trim panel (Figure 14).
8. Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel (Figure 14).
9. Remove the driver side A-pillar trim panel (Figure 14).
10. Disconnect the guide rail switch electrical connector (Figure 15).
11. Remove the two (2) set screws that secure the guide rail to the lock box (Figure 15).
12. Remove the three (3) guide rail bolts (2 at the top and one at the front) (Figure 15).
NOTE:
The two top bolts are located under the headliner. Push up on the headliner to remove the bolts. Use care to not damage the headliner during removal.
13. Remove the lock box bolt cover.
14. Loosen the two (2) guide rail/lock box bolts (Figure 15). Back the bolts almost all the way out but DO NOT REMOVE.
15. Remove the guide rail. Slide the emergency release buckle and cable along and out of the guide rail while removing the rail (Figure 15).
NOTE:
The buckle assembly is not attached to the cable.
16. Clean any grease off of the cable and buckle.
17. Remove the switch from the guide rail (Figure 15).
18. Transfer the guide rail switch onto the new guide rail, tighten the attaching screw securely. Insert the switch side half of the electrical connector into the guide rail bracket.
19. Install the drive cable and buckle assembly into the new guide rail. Slide the buckle to the full forward position while installing the rail.
20. Install the guide rail into the lock box. Install and tighten the two guide rail set screws securely.
21. Install the two center and one front guide rail attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 44 in-lbs (5 N.m) (Figure 15).
NOTE:
Use care not to damage the headliner. Push headliner up to install two top bolts.
22. Connect the guide rail switch electrical connector (Figure 15).
23. Tighten the lock box bolts to 33 ft-lbs (45 N.m) (Figure 15). Reinstall the lock box bolt cover.
24 Turn the ignition to the run position. Open and close the door to ensure that the shoulder belt operates properly.
25. Install the A-pillar trim panel (Figure 14).
26. Install the upper B-pillar trim panel (Figure 14).
27. Install the rear quarter trim panel (Figure 14).
NOTE:
Ensure that the rear shoulder belt is properly positioned in the trim panel opening.
28. Install the driver door sill trim panel (Figure 14).
29. ^ For vehicles with a one piece rear seat back: Install the rear seat back.
Tighten the two outer nuts to 44 in-lbs (5 N.m) and the center bolt to 14 ft-lbs (20 N.m) (Figure 13).
^ For vehicles with a split fold down rear seat back: Install the left side rear seat back. Tighten the lower nut to 44 in-lbs (5 N.m) (Figure 13).
30. Install the rear seat cushion (Figure 12). Make sure that the seat belts are on top of the seat.
31. Connect the shoulder belt to the emergency release buckle.
