Fig. 3 Diagnostic Trouble Code Quick Reference Chart:
1. With ignition in Off position, connect scan tool then turn ignition On.
2. Select ABS system on scan tool. The ABS warning light illuminates indicating the the system in in the scan tool mode. In the scan tool mode the ABS does not operate.
3. Read and record on-board codes.
4. Erase diagnostic trouble code memory as outlined under "Clearing Trouble Codes." If memory cannot be erased, the function is being stopped by a problem that is currently displayed. If memory can be erased, then problem was only temporary or is a problem that can only be detected while driving.
5. If the diagnostic trouble code is not erased or if the ABS function is stopped by a repeated driving test and a diagnostic trouble code is output, inspect system.
6. Trouble codes 16 (battery is bead) and 35 (engine is stopped) are output even when the ABS system is normal. These codes are output only for a current problem and, if the vehicle's condition returns to normal, then the codes will become normal.
7. After inspection, turn ignition switch to Off position and disconnect scan tool.
