Test 5 - Coil Resistance Testing

Ignition Coil Terminals:

COIL RESISTANCE CHECK

1. Measure the coil primary resistance by inserting one lead of an ohmmeter into the number 1 terminal of disconnected coil connector and the other end of the ohmmeter into the other.
2. The coil primary resistance value should be 0.9 - 1.2 ohms.
3. Measure the secondary coil resistance by inserting one ohmmeter test lead into the high-voltage terminal and the other into the number 1 terminal of the coil connector. Coil secondary resistance should be 20 - 29 k-ohms. If either the primary or secondary resistances are out of specification the distributor assembly must be replaced, since the components are not available separately. If the coil resistances are within specifications, check power transistor.
