A/C Compressor Clutch Does Not Engage
To test the a/c compressor clutch, operate the air conditioning in the NORM position with the climate control setting at 65 degrees. If the compressor clutch does not engage test the following:1. With the ignition switch in the off position, measure the resistance between the Air Control Module (ACM) terminals C8 and D5.
- If the resistance is zero, the a/c cut out switch is OK, Go to step 2.
- If the resistance is not zero, check for normal refrigerant level. If the refrigerant level is OK, replace the a/c low pressure cut out switch.
2. With the ignition key on, check voltage at terminal # 5 of the a/c clutch relay connector.
- If battery voltage is not present, check fuse # 8 and the circuit to fuse # 8.
3. Check voltage at terminal # 4 of the a/c clutch relay connector.
- If battery voltage is not present, check the fusible link and the circuit to the fusible link.
4. Check for power between terminals 5 and 2 of the a/c clutch relay connector.
- If battery voltage is not present, check for open to the ACM connector, terminal C5. If battery voltage is present to terminal C5, then replace the ACM.
5. Connect a jumper wire between terminals 4 and 1 of the a/c clutch relay connector.
- If the a/c compressor clutch engages, replace the relay.
- If the a/c compressor clutch does not engage, check for an open between the a/c compressor clutch and the relay or a faulty compressor clutch.
