SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Crankshafts used in the 1.5L engines assembled for production after January 1, 1989 were of a new design. As a result of these design changes, the crankshaft journals and the crankshaft pins can no longer be ground undersize. Undersize bearings are not available for 1.5L engines built with the new crankshaft.



The new crankshaft design can be visually identified easily by the relief cut at the crankshaft journal and pin fillets as shown in the illustration below.
